AC Machines Lab

The AC Machine and Transformer Laboratory at D.Y. Patil Education Society (Deemed to be University), School of Engineering and Management, is a state-of-the-art facility that provides practical exposure to key electrical engineering concepts. The lab is designed to bridge theory and real-world applications by offering hands-on experience in operating, testing, and analyzing AC machines. Students conduct essential experiments such as students conduct key experiments such as speed control of induction motors, no-load and blocked-rotor tests, alternator regulation by EMF/MMF and direct loading methods, synchronization using lamp and synchroscope methods, and V/Inverted V curves of synchronous motors. These experiments help bridge theoretical concepts with real-world applications.
The lab is equipped with modern test benches, synchronization panels, V/f control drives, and advanced measuring instruments, enabling students to gain hands-on experience in motor control, generator performance, and power measurement techniques. By working with industry-relevant setups, students develop essential analytical and technical skills required for careers in power systems, industrial drives, and automation.

The DC Machine and Transformer Laboratory at D.Y. Patil Education Society (Deemed to be University), School of Engineering and Management, is a state-of-the-art facility that provides practical exposure to key electrical engineering concepts. The lab is designed to bridge theory and real-world applications by offering hands-on experience in operating, testing, and analyzing DC machines and transformers. Students conduct essential experiments such as speed control of DC shunt motors, transformer load tests, and efficiency evaluations using Hopkinson’s and Swinburne’s methods—developing critical skills for power system design, analysis, and maintenance.
Equipped with advanced instruments, the lab features cutting-edge setups including speed control rigs, single-phase and three-phase transformer testing units, and universal motor stations. Highlights also include Hopkinson’s and Swinburne’s test benches, Scott connection systems for phase con-version studies. These facilities prepare students for industry challenges by fostering technical pro-ficiency and analytical skills in a modern, application-driven learning environment.

The Electrical Instrumentation Laboratory in the Department of Electrical Engineering at D.Y. Patil School of Engineering and Management, Kolhapur.The lab is designed to provide students with hands-on experience in:
- Measuring electrical quantities (voltage, current, power, resistance, etc.)
- Calibrating and using electrical instruments
- Understanding sensors and transducers: LVDT, thermocouples, RTD, strain gauges.
- Operating and analysing power electronic circuits like rectifiers, inverters, and converters
lab focuses on the operation of semiconductor devices such as SCRs, TRIACs, MOSFETs, and IGBTs, enabling students to perform experiments on rectifiers, choppers, inverters, and AC voltage controllers. Emphasis is placed on key control techniques like phase control and Pulse Width Modulation (PWM), which are vital for efficient energy conversion and control in modern power systems.
Equipped with power supplies, oscilloscopes, function generators, digital multimeters, and custom trainer kits, the lab supports in-depth experimentation and analysis. Students explore V-I characteristics, switching behavior, and converter performance under various loads using resistive, inductive, and capacitive load banks. Strict safety protocols are followed to ensure safe operation. The lab prepares students for careers in industries that rely on precision measurement, automation, and control systems.such as electric vehicles, renewable energy, motor drives, and power system automation by equipping them with essential technical and troubleshooting skills.

Programming Lab– Empowering Future Electrical Engineers with Coding Skills
The Programming Laboratory in the Department of Electrical Engineering at D. Y. Patil School of Engineering and Management, Kolhapur, serves as a foundational space where students develop essential computational thinking and coding skills. This state-of-the-art facility is equipped with modern computing systems and relevant software tools to support hands-on learning in programming languages such as C, C++, Python, and MATLAB—critical for simulation, data analysis, automation, and embedded system design. Designed to complement theoretical courses, the lab encourages students to solve real-world engineering problems through coding, fostering a problem-solving mindset. Students engage in projects ranging from basic algorithm development to advanced applications in electrical system modeling, signal processing, and microcontroller-based programming.
With expert faculty guidance and a focus on both individual and collaborative learning, the Programming Lab empowers future electrical engineers with the digital skills necessary to thrive in the era of Industry 4.0. The lab’s infrastructure supports various academic and co-curricular activities including coding competitions, workshops, and skill development sessions.
